We have, many times! Have you ever seen anyone crash because they had "too much" charge in their pack? WE HAVEN'T EITHER!!
As far as we're concerned, if you are not using the hot new Duralite (low weight/super high capacity) batteries, then you NEED a good fast charger. There are two on the market that we really like and highly recommend - the HiTec units and THESE Sirius Chargers. We've used the Sirius Charge for three years now on ALL of our aircraft and transmitter packs. The only time we ever use a wall charger is when the packs first arrive, for the initial charge. After that we just hook the Sirius charge up to the transmitter AND receiver packs on the way to the field.
In about 10 minutes this charger gives you MORE CHARGE with LESS HEAT than your overnight wall-wart charger! (The two biggest enemies of NiCd cells are HEAT and vibration). Ignore the experts that tell you that "anything but a slow charge will kill your packs" - they're just stuck in the 70's or else have never used a well designed, modern charger. (They probably like straight castor oil in their fuel too - don't get me started!) The Sirius Charge is far more likely to extend your pack life than to shorten it!
Better yet, there's no excuse to ever fly with a low battery when you have one of these chargers. Simply plug in the charger after every flight or two and fly with a big reserve on EVERY flight!
The Sirius Charge Pro comes with banana plugs for your flight box (12v DC input) and with "universal" connectors for your receiver. I always cut off the universal connectors as they tend to fit universally poorly, but that's up to you. The polarity is set for Futaba/Airtronics on the outputs, so the polarity is REVERSED from what JR TX ports need. Either re-wire it or buy the optional "Polarity Adapter" part if you fly JR.
